Boyle River, Lewis Pass...................I have never seen a lot of trout in this river, properly more Canadian Goose and Paradise Duck than anything else up and down near the village (engineers camp) but there are a few big trout in this river I can tell you and two weeks ago one monster took my nymph (#12 hare and copper) snapped it off the leader like a wild horse kicking my butt. I have to "re-think" (this is a hard one) and really adjust my gear for those "Monsters" who only show themselves very rarely and mostly once the sun is gone down the horizon! Ok, It's a very nice river to fish and the area is quiet scenic (walk and stalk + enjoy the surroundings),but there are not so many trout there to practice fly-fishing on, it seems to be I was entering a forbidden zone for novices: "the territory of the double figure big boys". Beside fishing, the Lewis Pass region is a very nice recreational area, good for tramping, fishing or hunting and there is a beautiful DOC walking track close by, the st-james-walkway.
