[Thaxterogaster porphyreus] Scan from Slide 2006 taken within the mountain beach forest on my way up to the Buckland Peaks hut.
This is now renamed as Cortinarius porphyroideus, thanks to DNA.
There are two forms - one with a short stipe, the other with a longer stipe and coarser spores.
Found under beech. (Source: http://www.kaimaibush.co.nz/Fungi/Thaxterogaster%20porphyreus.html )
